L’ICANN a publié le mercredi 13 juin 2012 la liste des candidats aux nouvelles extensions internet (« NewgTLDs). Parmi les prétendants, il y a des entreprises qui ont souhaité déposé leurs .MARQUES (« dotBRAND »). Elles représentent 34 % des demandes soumises à l’ICANN.

En France, une trentaine de .MARQUES a été présenté comme .AIRBUS, .ALSTOM, .AXA, .BNPPARIBAS, .HERMES, .LECLERC, .LOREAL, .MAIF, .MMA, .SANOFI, .SFR, .SNCF ou le .TOTAL.
